Daily Photography – Day 229

Diana Chaloux for David Bickley Photography

Took a little breather today and was able to spend some time with an old friend and his little girl. Good times.

I love how a real friendship can have both people lose touch for a while and then reconnect, picking up right where it left off. I’ll admit though, it’s kinda weird to think about the fact that those friends I have in my life, are people I’ve known for over half of my life.

I guess it’s just odd to think that I’ve known anyone that long outside of family. Then again, I don’t really pay attention to the passing of large amounts of time. I also forget my own birthday. Things like that are why I own a planner!

See you tomorrow,

Had a little crisis at Castle Bickley this morning. I guess there was a storm last night and my wonderful surge protector was apparently on strike.

So, I had to replace the power supply in the workstation computer. All in all it wasn’t near as bad as it could have been. More often than not when a power supply goes out in a computer, it takes a lot of other parts with it. In this case nothing was damaged but the one piece, and all data is still in tact (would have been fine anyway with all the redundant backups I have). So overall just a minor inconvenience.

Can you believe it’s September already? It didn’t really dawn on me until today that summer is really almost over and we only have 4 more months until the new year. The pools close in a week here in the midwest! Tragic, I know.

You would think that I would have gotten the hint when I started shooting fall fashion for magazines…but, those things happen so far in advance I guess I just didn’t think about it.

Lots of exciting things are happening and I can’t wait to tell you about all of them. On top of those I still have these crazy side-projects I’m trying to make time for.

I have to run now, but I hope all of you are having a great week so far.

See you tomorrow,

I love being able to take photographs like today’s.

It’s strong and gentle all at once. I can’t think of any other way to describe what I mean. I suppose that’s why I create the image rather than describe it in words for you to imagine on your own.

Hello public, sorry for the late post today. It was quite the day.

Jeneal Stanley

From a magazine shoot in the morning, then working on getting my shoulder back to 100%, then dealing with banks for hours…you know, I’m gonna stop right there actually. As I was writing that out I realized that the one thing that I did today that I really enjoyed is the one thing most people complain the most about…their job.

Don’t get me wrong, I want to gripe about sitting in a bank for 3 hours but I just can’t now. I started my day off doing something that I love. What more do I really need?

I think it’s been a while since I offered up any encouragement on this thing, so here we go.

Rediscover your passion and pursue it as if you’re very existence depended on you living out that dream. After all, how do you know that it doesn’t?

See you tomorrow,

I think the incredible weather is done here. It was a beautiful 75 degrees for the majority of the week, and now we’re back to 90′s. Not awesome.

Micah Lacerte for David Bickley Photography

That’s all I have for today. I posted a shot, and the rest is me complaining about the weather. I know I know, but I don’t have anything exciting going on that I can actually talk about yet!

Anyway audience, I need to run…another packed day tomorrow!

Until then,

Daily Photographer – Day 224

Hey guys, been quite the day today. Before I get into that though, let’s see today’s shot.

Jeneal Stanley

A couple of days ago I got word that I’d be doing an ad campaign for a company based in Puerto Rico. Well, there was a bit of urgency behind it so we pulled everything together and shot it all this morning. As you know based on how I normally am with this stuff, I can’t show you anything yet. The grand opening is in January and there’s talk of some pretty cool stuff happening though so it’s definitely exciting over here right now.

I’m also considering making another trip out to LA soon, and possibly Vegas for the Olympia in September. If you’re going to be out there and want to shoot be sure to let me know.

See you tomorrow,

How about an early morning post today? What a change of pace huh?

Jeneal Stanley for David Bickley Photography

One of the downsides to being a creative person is that sometimes your mind will wake you up out of a deep and blissful sleep and force you to get up and create. That is where I’m at right now. I can’t even really say it’s a bad thing, this just means that I’m taking a nice long nap around noon after I get home from my shoot this morning.

I keep forgetting to tell you all, but a few days ago I got word that I’ve now been published on my 4th and 5th continents. This leaves South America and Antarctica before I can say that I’ve had my work on every land mass on Earth. Maybe it’s a silly goal, but I’m working my way from biggest to smallest. Meaning that I’m starting at the continental level, then countries, states and cities. In that order. The internet doesn’t count. I’m fully prepared to accept that I may never get my work to Antarctica since there’s kinda nobody living there except scientists and even then only briefly. I’m thinking I might just send them a print and call it even.

Moving on…

So here’s that article, published in FAB Magazine and distributed throughout South Africa and the UK.

Also, Micah Lacerte (you remember him from last weeks posts) was interviewed for SimplyShredded.com and a couple of my images were featured in that article as well as a brief behind the scenes video from one of our shoots. Check it out here.

Thus concludes my update at 5:30am on Friday.

Had a great shoot today with Jeneal, an aspiring bikini model here in KC.

Jeneal Bennett-Stanley for David Bickley Photography

She has a great look about her, and for being brand new to standing in front of a camera she did wonderfully.

Keep checking over the next few days. There will be plenty more.

Sunday Mornings

I tossed back and forth about whether or not to post today’s image, which seems to happen anytime I think the wrong perception could be made. Perhaps I over-think these things. I’m always wrong about it. Moments after I post them I’m bombarded with people praising the shots. So maybe I should stop hesitating?

Ok then.

Man I really need to spend a day and update the portfolio on my little corner of the web here.

Woman in repose

I get so consumed by the daily posts that I actually forget there’s a whole other section of this website that has been horribly neglected.

Another project on the list.

See you all tomorrow,

D
