October 24, 2008

Pierpoint’s photo shoot has been a long time coming. I don’t know how many times we had to reschedule, but we finally got all the details worked out and found a date everyone could do.

The results?

Roots n’ Blues 2008 – Buddy Guy

October 16, 2008

Yeah, so Buddy Guy was here at Roots n’ Blues… and he was good, no doubt. He was also probably the most famous person on stage the whole weekend.

That may be part of my issue here. Keep in mind this is nothing against Buddy Guy, he is an incredibly talented artist and I have the utmost respect for him. This is more about his people. One guy in particular, a Napoleonite (my own made up word) with long brown hair and a goatee that decided to try to drag me away from the stage by my shirt.

Roots n’ Blues 2008 – Bettye Lavette

October 15, 2008

The woman is a dancing machine. That’s my summation of Bettye Lavette.

She. Is. a. Dancing. Machine.

Wow. Yes, I know there are a lot of “wows” in my reviews of these shows. Can I help it that these artists are incredible? Probably not.

Roots n’ Blues 2008 – TJ Wheeler

October 14, 2008

I don’t know much about TJ Wheeler. From what I gather, he does a lot of work with kids as far as teaching them about blues music and how to play instruments. What intrigues me though is that when I arrived at that stage…he was playing a stick that had a string and an altoids box attached to it.

I don’t know what it is, but it sounded great.

Roots n’ Blues 2008 – Noah Earle

October 13, 2008

I love when local artists land big shows. I don’t care if it someone I’ve never heard of or not. They get kudos for landing the gig regardless. I don’t remember seeing Noah Earle at last year’s festival, but given the fact that he has serious talent, I hope they bring him on again next year.

Roots n’ Blues 2008 – Harper

October 12, 2008

Where to begin with Harper… I’ve never heard someone combine Blues with a Didgeridoo. Since I will fail at describing it verbally, I’ll sum it up like this… Wow.

Roots n’ Blues 2008 – Gary Clark Jr.

October 11, 2008

When I first saw this guy, I immediately thought of Lenny Kravitz.  Fortunately Gary Clark Jr. is much better. Mainly because I’m not a fan of the Kravitz.

Roots n’ Blues 2008 – Roy C

October 10, 2008

That’s right, the man…the legend… the dude they were making a movie about during the festival: Roy C.  He was here at the Roots n’ Blues n’ BBQ festival, and he was awesome. However, I’m weaning you all off of my incredible reviews, and have instead decided to just show the images unless I have something super cool to say.

So without further ado…

Roots n’ Blues 2008 – Del McCoury Band

October 9, 2008

I wish I could do this band the courtesy of one of my terribly crafted Roots n’ Blues reviews but, sadly I was so into shooting the concert I could barely hear the music.  So, enjoy some photos instead. Click that “read more” button for the rest of them.

Roots n’ Blues 2008 – Record Collector

October 8, 2008

I really enjoy when a performer can not only rock the house, but do it with a great sense of humor at the same time. Record Collector did just that.
