Meet Otto

What a weekend. Otto is the newest official family member now and as promised, I have some photos.

I forgot to take my camera with me while we were outside. Ooops. It worked out better that way in the end though. Otto is a very intelligent dog (as I believe most of them are) but his fearful nature is a major obstacle.

I know I can change that as I’m able to work with him on a daily basis. So far that seems like it will be the hardest part of training him. More than anything, training the people that he will be around will beĀ  a bigger challenge.

Given that today is the day he doesn’t get to go back home to his previous owner, I’m sure it’s especially tough on him.

Anyway, so that’s today’s news.

OH, and the Central Missouri Humane Society is now #4 in the contest on ZooToo.com that I told you about in my last post!

How awesome is that?

Portraits With Ashley

Ashley came in for her second session with me last Saturday, stunning me with another breathtaking shoot.

She likes to be humble and say that she doesn’t know what she’s doing. That may be true and if it is, the girl is a natural. Any of you photographers out there reading this… Get a hold of her, not only could she use the experience but you know you need her face in your book. End of story.

I will post some more as I get her approval.

Until then, ciao my audience.

Ladies and Gentlemen, We Are Live

Chances are if you are a frequent visitor here, you will have already noticed the new section of the site. For those that didn’t, you will find that www.davidbickley.com no longer takes you to this blog, but now leads to a site where you can view a brand new portfolio section of my photographic web presence.

There is still some work to be done, but I plan to have this site in it’s final iteration by the weekend.

Thank you all for your patience and support while this has been underway. It has been an experience for sure.

Crazy Photo Weekend

Let’s just jump right into the photos, eh?

This is Ashley, a young woman with a ton of potential who has taken part of the offer I posted about last week. She doesn’t have a ton of modeling experience, but as I’m sure you’ll all agree…you can’t tell.

More after the jump.

Unprecedented

After I started talking about things I would do in the new year. I started thinking “I’m going to do something this year, that I haven’t done in many years”, and as a result I’ve decided to hand out a bunch of free shoots.

So, here’s what I’m doing:

10 free full-day modeling shoots ( 5 random people, 5 of my choosing )

1 free wedding.

“So how do I get this deal David?”

I’ll tell you. In the upper right corner of this website is a button that says “contact me”. You click that and fill out the contact form with the subject line “free photos”, in the message box…tell me a story. Tell me who you are and why you want to shoot with me (yes “because it’s free” is acceptable, I suppose)

I’m going to give this until the end of February. Then I will choose the winners and post them here.

Better Late Than Never

Last time I wrote I said that next time we would talk about new years resolutions. That next time is this time today. I actually have not had the time until now to really think about what I wanted from, or what I would do during this new year. So, although we are halfway into the first month of another year, I figure that now is as good of a time as any to nail it down for certain.

1. I will write in this blog at least once a week.

2. The new sections of my site will be up before the end of February.

3. I will go and take photos for myself at least once a week.

4. I will read at least two new books a month.

I know these aren’t the standard “I will lose a billion pounds” or “I will save more money” types of commitments. Let’s face it, New Year’s resolutions have become something that we all know we won’t do. People say the same thing every year. So, my fifth and final resolution is to actually keep the commitments I have made to myself.

Now, if I could only find the time to get started.

Anyone want to get started inventing a time machine for me?

No?

Think about it.

Heavy Frequency Awards -V-

I don’t generally post my design work on here because well, this blog is more about my life as a professional photographer; however, I am also a commercial graphic designer and the project I am in the midst of is pretty remarkable.

Heavy Frequency Magazine is putting on it’s 5th annual awards show, where they will once again honor the best of the best in local music. The endeavor is planned and executed by a young woman named Heather Bashaw, and her all volunteer staff. Heather has been running Heavy Frequency Magazine for about 8 years now, and she is only twenty-two years old. Yes folks, you read that right. She started this highly revered magazine when she was only fourteen.

For the past 3 years I have volunteered my services both as a professional photographer and a graphic designer. This year I am helping develop the ad campaign for their fifth annual award show, and this is the final look we have decided on:

So, all of you in Kansas City and the surrounding metro area…be on the look out. They get distributed soon.

Also, if you want to see a great show, make sure to be there. From what I understand there will be some huge prizes given out (some just for attending) and some even bigger thing that I have been sworn to secrecy about.

My lips are sealed.

Holiday Suprise! (not a fruitcake, promise)

Well friends, if it hasn’t hit you yet I’m sure it will soon. The holidays are upon us. “Black Friday” (a marketing phenomenon exclusive to the good ‘ol US of A) is a mere two days away. For many people, holiday shopping is a stressful time…much like planning a wedding. Now I can’t do anything to alleviate the stress levels of the shopping herd but, I can do something to make life a bit easier on you and your fiancee.

As of today, I am offering a 15% discount on my wedding collection prices to any bride and groom that book their photography before the end of this year. It doesn’t matter what day you are getting married, or what year, so long as you book that date before January 1, 2008.

“That’s great David, where are your prices?”

Easy, just click the button on the top right of this page that says “contact me”. Fire me an email with that contact form and I will send you all of the information you will need.

Any Ideas?

While I was out the other day, I almost literally stumbled across this interesting little fungi. I thought it was an egg at first. Do any of you know what kind this is?
