Well ladies and gents, if you’ve been following along today then you already know I worked very hard to bring you the images you’re about to see. After the other week when I missed the opportunity in Kansas City, there was no way in hell this one at Mizzou in Columbia was getting by me.

So, after a tremendous amount of effort, negotiating and professional photographerism (new word), I made absolutely sure I got in to this one.

Willie Nelson calls him “The real deal,” and he may very well be, despite being a less than recognizable name in his genre. James “Slim” Hand came to Columbia, MO as the first act on the main stage Friday night. Given the name of the festival (Roots n’ Blues n’ BBQ) I’d say that James Hand definitely fits more in the “roots” end of the spectrum.

Well readers, it is just after 11pm the Sunday after Columbia’s second annual Roots N’ Blues N’ BBQ festival, and like last year (before this blog was alive) I was in the thick of it. I had a blast, they put barriers up this year so us lowly photographers didn’t get trampled (thank you). As of this moment my lovely computer is putting the finishing touches on the 1,700 images I took over the 2-day festival. I’ve been giving it some thought, and I think it will be easiest to split up the images I want to show you by artist, rather than kill your internet connections with one huge post full of images.

There are a few that don’t fit that category though, like my hot air balloon ride over the city. So I’ll show you that now.

Feeling a bit better this morning, which is great considering that we are going to a water park for a few hours. Still not sleeping solidly through the night and I’m getting tired of that (no pun intended). I think last night was the turning point. We went to see Tropic Thunder, which is pretty friggin hysterical by the way. When we left the theatre the plan was to go over to a friends house and hang for a bit. Before landing there i needed to stop by the grocery store for some water. I know that sounds yuppie-ish, but if you had ever tasted Columbia tap water you would agree that not only does it smell like public pool water, but it probably capable of dissolving human flesh as well.

I had the pleasure earlier this month of photographing two photographers from Iowa. Sarah and Erin came down on a Saturday and spent the weekend with me snapping who knows how many frames.

The first location we went to was an open field with an abandoned home and some rusted out vehicles. It had been pretty sunny the week of the shoot so I figured that it would be pretty easy to get in and out. I was definitely wrong.

You wouldn’t know it from the photographs but, it was insanely muddy. I didn’t realize this until I had already driven my poor car halfway up the sludge-like road leading to the location, parked and tried to get out. So, fifteen minutes later when I’ve gotten my car back on solid ground we get to start shooting.

Let’s just jump right into the photos, eh?

This is Ashley, a young woman with a ton of potential who has taken part of the offer I posted about last week. She doesn’t have a ton of modeling experience, but as I’m sure you’ll all agree…you can’t tell.

More after the jump.
