Today’s image is fairly similar to another from the past few days but I wanted to illustrate a point that came up in conversation at today’s shoot.
The last image of this dish was much lighter. The focal point was the same, but the presentation has changed dramatically. We’ve talked about this kind of thing before with regard to how different a person can seem based on the pose and the lighting. What I failed to mention before is how that crosses over into other genres of photography as well.
For you readers that are experienced photographers, this is old news I’m sure. If you’re just starting out though, remember that lighting is everything. The image above is far less appetizing (at least to me) than the one from a week ago of the same subject. We want food to look fresh, bright and appealing, even if it’s an olive.
