Once, maybe twice a year. That’s how often I shoot a wedding, and yet it’s the thing I get asked most.
I realize that saying that may sound like I’m complaining. I’m not. Truth be told, I love photographing them. My point is this: Most people when they find out someone is a photographer don’t really know that there are TONS of different genres of photography, so the first things they ask is either “do you shoot weddings?” or less often “do you do senior pictures?” neither of which are offensive questions like most photographers like to think. In fact, I can’t say that I know a single professional photographer that would refuse to shoot the wedding of someone extremely close to them. Knowing that, I think it’s pretty silly to get offended at the question.
Personally, I know where my skill is the strongest so I don’t pursue a market saturated with people far better than I am. I say let them do their thing, you know?
All that said, they are fun and I do really enjoy the few that I opt to take. It’s an honor to be asked to be a part of them…even if I end up declining.
See you tomorrow,
