Are you a talker or a doer?

Corporate Portrait by David Bickley Photography

In my business I see a lot of the former going on. In fact it’s the sole reason I try to keep news about upcoming projects to myself more often than not. I’m fairly certain I’ve explained this before. There are plenty of reasons to adhere to the “mouth shut” philosophy but for me the biggest is to keep from crying wolf (for lack of a better term). I don’t want to be the guy that talks a great game but never shows results. Generating hype only to let people down is one of the worst things you can do in my opinion. I feel that way because I’ve unintentionally done it to you before. When I talk about travel itinerary for the year or dates that I can finally release work I’ve done to you.

So why does this come up today?

I’m an introspective guy and as I sit back and consider the ebb and flow of this blog I’ve come to realize that I’ve started doing what I can’t stand. There are ideas for images flying around in my head non-stop but, lately I haven’t been able to get them executed (as far as personal work is concerned). Yet I find myself alluding to them only to end up putting them on the back burner due to a lack of time.

I can’t rant when I myself am guilty of hype without results. So something’s gotta give.

Next week when all of the massive amount of images I’m still processing are completed I’ll make it a point to shoot something out of my element. I don’t know what yet, but that’s a commitment I’ll make to you. Products are always a big challenge so maybe that’ll be it. Who knows.

See you tomorrow,

D
