The zoo fell through today due to some dodgy weather. The thought of going anyway was briefly considered but instead we went to the basilica.
I have a love/hate relationship with catholic churches. On the one hand, I love the architecture, history and beauty of them. On the other hand I’m not a huge fan of the lavish nature of them. I’ve always felt that the funds it takes to build something so ornate could be much better utilized to serve in other ways. I mean I don’t know what is would cost today to build something like a basilica but I imagine several homes could be made in a third world country instead. Maybe I’m wrong, but it seems to make sense.
Yes, I understand that these buildings are pretty old and maybe that wasn’t the focus back then.
What if the mindset had been different?
See you tomorrow,
