I’m not sure how I feel about what I’m about to say but I’m going to say it anyway. I bought wifi LED lights today and it may have been the most exciting part of my week!
Yeah, turns out I’m not embarrassed by this. They are awesome and completely frivolous, my favorite combination. I haven’t set everything up completely yet but being able to randomly light a room whatever color I want is pretty awesome! So let’s talk rationalization for a quick second. Listen up photographers! There is a use here in the fact that you could use devices like this to change the feel of a hot-lit scene with basically no effort. It’s not so much that you could make the still-life scene purple or yellow as it is that you could perfectly balance the light temperature. Is it the best solution? No. Is it suitable for strobe work? Not really. Is it absolutely friggin’ awesome? Oh hell yeah!
Setting up geofencing with the system allows me to set up the home so the lights know to turn on when I walk in the room. The timer makes it so I can set all the lights to turn on or off whenever I choose. The web interface makes it so I can screw with people staying in my home no matter where I am in the world.
In short…I’m just so happy right now.
