Well I hope all of you that observe Thanksgiving had a great one! I think this is the first year that I haven’t had a countless number of plates full of food.

Not for lack of great food either though, I promise. Maybe I just finally started to remember that the typical gorge-fest really misses the point of the day. It’s almost like we celebrate how thankful we are for the blessings in life by consumption rather than reflection. Don’t get me wrong, a feast is a feast and they are awesome. Yet, especially this year it just felt off and I think it just dawned on my why that is. Earlier this year on Fstoppers we posted an article showcasing what a week’s worth of groceries looked like around the world. It made me incredibly appreciative of even my bad days, and I’ll give you one guess as to which image did it.

Here’s the link again if you missed it.

I didn’t start writing today with the intention of bringing you down…I didn’t even realize what I was writing until halfway through. Looking back on that image I realize that there was more on the table in this one day than in several of those images.

Of course I am thankful for having that but, that appreciation also comes with a weight. I’m not doing my part to impact lesser circumstances…and there is really no excuse for that.

See you tomorrow,

D
