Over the past couple of days I’ve been working on adopting a new task management system. Sounds riveting right?
Well, it’s been more interesting than I expected to be honest. For the next two weeks I’m testing out a program called OmniFocus and following the advice of AsianEfficiency.com to get it all set up properly. I didn’t really expect the process they’ve laid out though because the first real task they lay out in their guide is to basically brain-vomit everything you want to do. No time frame, no organization, just go. So far I’m at 83 items and it’s not slowing down. There’s no telling where it will stop or how it will all get put in any comprehensible form. However, there are times when you just have to admit that what you’ve been doing wasn’t working…and then you’ve got to trust someone else to show you a better way.
I don’t know yet if this is the right option (meaning this app or method) but I do know that changing how I managed email last week made a huge impact on my life already (something like a 25% boost in productivity). I can’t even imagine what overhauling my entire to-do list method will do.
The realization that I’m actually sort-of an adult just hit me. I’m gonna go watch cartoons now.
See you tomorrow,
