While I was looking through the archives today I realized that once again I’ve managed to forget to show you all something that was shot for publication.
Sometimes a lot of time passes between a session and when it goes to press. The above image was taken during a shoot for KC Magazine about a local glass blower by the name of Tom Bloyd.
You long time readers may recall me mentioning before that I had the opportunity to watch and photograph a glass blower several months ago…this was that. I may or may not decide to post images of Tom working on the molten glass, but today I just couldn’t resist the incredible color of this piece. If you’re ever in the Kansas City area definitely check Tom’s shop out, even if the work isn’t your style it’s still fascinating to watch the process.
See you tomorrow,
D
I took a glass-blowing class a while back. (I’ve even got a paperweight to prove it!) Really cool stuff. It creates such beautiful pieces. It’s interesting to hear the glass blowers talking about how there’s a sort of element of mystery to how the final piece will turn out. I think this shot really captures the sort of “magic” of the process – great photo!
